Filmed at Yellowstone National Park, examine the processes that form geysers including the relationship of ground water and a heat source to the regularity of eruptions.

This comprehensive program takes students to the regions of the U.S. where volcanic activity has been most concentrated. Footage includes Kilauea and Mauna Loa in Hawaii, Mount St. Helens, Mount Shasta, Mount Mazama and Katmai in Alaska.

This program incorporates excellent footage of the eruption of Mt. St. Helens and subsequent eruptions in exploring the causes of volcanism. Also features interviews with geologists who explain what new knowledge has been gained from studies of the eruption.

Portrays the 1955 eruption of Kilauea Volcano, Hawaii, from the first appearance of fissures that formed along the rift zone through the appearance of lava, the formation of cones and flows, the spectacular pyrotechnical displays of lava fountains, and the great pillars of rising steam generated as the lava river plunges into the sea.

Features the spectacular 1959-60 eruption of Kilauea Volcano, highlighting the sight and sound of lava fountaining from subsidiary crater, Kilauea Iki. Explains processes leading to a volcanic eruption. Includes scenes of lava from a half-mile long line of fissures that pours down over the floor of the crater, forming a 300-foot deep lava lake.

The topics explored in the this program include the types of volcanoes: cinder cone, composite volcanoes, shield volcanoes, lava domes and other volcanic features such as plugs, necks and maars along with crytovolcanic structures. Types of volcanic eruptions featured are submarine volcanoes, geysers, fumaroles and hot springs. Students learn where volcanoes can be found with an explanation of Plate-Tectonic theory. Also covered are extra-terrestrial volcanoes, volcano monitoring and research; how volcanoes affect people.

This program investigates the mechanisms of a volcano; types of volcanoes and why and how they erupt. Excellent animation explains what is taking place underground. It also introduces the student to volcanic terms such as magma, batholith, sills, dikes, cinder cones, composite cones, shield volcanoes and pahoehoe lavas.

This DVD takes the student to Sunset Crater National Monument located near Flagstaff, Arizona. This cinder cone volcano erupted almost 900 years ago and lava flows and ash make you think that the eruption took place recently. The program examines the cinder cone volcano which is very different from Hawaiian types (Kilauea and Mauna Loa) or the composite types (Mount St. Helens).

Mammoths, giant bison, and short-faced bears were witness to the first tremblings of the earth and firework-like explosions of molten rock thousands of feet into the air. Approximately 60,000 years ago, the rain of cooling cinders and four lava flows formed Capulin Volcano, a nearly perfectly-shaped cinder cone, rising more than 1000 feet above the surrounding landscape. Although long extinct, Capulin Volcano is dramatic evidence of the volcanic processes that shaped northeastern New Mexico. Today the pine forested volcano provide habitat for mule deer, wild turkey, and black bear. A 2-mile road spiraling to the top of the volcano and paved trails into the crater and around its rim provide access to explore the volcano and enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding volcanic landscape.
